Lingrow Farm – Rustic Romance October 6, 2010

I have an unhealthy obsession with barns! I can enjoy weddings without barns but I guarantee you my wedding will have one. I may have found my own local venue front runner with Lingrow Farm. Located in Leechburg, PA, Lingrow Farm is one of The Knot’s Best of Weddings 2010 winners. It’s easy to see why. The location is easily accessible from Pittsburgh, offers all of the comforts of a high class resort coupled with the romance of a rustic location.

Seating capacity: Unlimited for an outdoors wedding! The barn’s main floor holds 240 guests, the stable room and deck hold 125 guests.

Overnight: To add to the convenience of the location the 1865 Farmhouse is available for overnight stays for you and your bridal party if needed! The rehearsal dinner is included in your event fees and Lingrow Farm recommends a local restaurant, 1844 Restaurant, for your rehearsal dinner.

Catering: Garda restaurant is the exclusive caterer for Lingrow Farm. The farm staff will provide bar service for you, while you provide the beverages which means major savings!

Lingrow Farm is even happy to arrange the music or DJ for you and your guests to party until midnight!

Bedford Springs Resort September 20, 2010

I was lucky enough to enjoy a spa day at Bedford Springs Resort this past Saturday.  I won’t lie and say I have many spas to compare this one to but anywhere where I can sit in an oversized chaise lounge, drink wine, and get a massage is HEAVEN.  I was also lucky enough to crash two weddings….I mean admire two weddings 🙂 I wouldn’t mind planning a wedding at Bedford myself!

Below are photos from Bellissima Photography of one of Bedford’s beautiful weddings.

Talk about a tub you want to spend time in! If you are lucky enough to enjoy the spa be sure to take one of the relaxing bath/massage options.

I’m a sucker for a rope swing!

The woodland theme was a perfect counterpoint to the luxurious nature of the hotel. The combination looks wonderful!

Anne of Green Gables September 13, 2010

Nothing says Country-Chic wedding more than a rustic barn wedding but in Western Pennsylvania restaurants might have the edge.  Having a wedding in a barn immediately gives your wedding a country theme but can require more decorations than a reasonable budget may allow.  Restaurants can cut back on the need for decor and of course catering.  One of my favorite restaurant wedding-venues in the Laurel Highlands is Green Gables restaurant.

I’ve actually attended a wedding at Green Gables that was every bride’s nightmare – unseasonably cold and pouring rain the entire day.  Taking an outside wedding indoors is simple given the restaurant’s layout. We entered through the front part of the dining room while the actual wedding space was towards the back. This made for a lovely entrance for the bride as well and still allowed her a big reveal moment!  The restaurant rental space is also included in your rental fee if Green Gables is catering and providing refreshments.

If you are lucky enough to get married outside, I’d recommend Fall when you can take full advantage of the season’s colors. Not to mention the beautiful stream that runs through the grounds!

Pros: Indoor and outdoor space can be included in your rental in case of weather, holds up to 400, beautifully decorated

Cons: Can be difficult for out-of-town guests to get to

As a resident of Pittsburgh, I tend to focus on wedding venues here and in the wonderful city of Nashville (where I met the not-yet-fiance).  Anyone can plan a wedding in a hotel ballroom, for a more unique approach in Pittsburgh try the Morning Glory Inn.  Located conveniently within the city, the Morning Glory Inn, is a great way to give your wedding a homey personal feel without shuttling your guests outside of the city.

The garden courtyard allows for both an indoor and outdoor celebration which is a great safety net for unexpected weather.  It also requires little decor to look absolutely perfect – add some tea candles and go! Adding to the convenience of the location, the Morning Glory Inn is available for the day of your wedding or the entire weekend.  Book the whole weekend and you can do everything from host your rehearsal dinner to have a morning-after brunch with 30 of your guests. Another perk to hosting your wedding at a Bed and Breakfast? Out of town guests can stay overnight eliminating transportation all together! Room rates are quite reasonable meaning there is no reason to stay elsewhere. Just don’t go overboard with your guest list, capacity for the inn is 150 guests.

Pros: convenient location, voted ‘Best Wedding’ by The Knot four years in a row, indoor and outdoor space, only one event per day, flexibility with catering

Cons: capped guest list at 150
